Smith Rock Geo-Exploration
Led by Derek Loeb
Wednesday, May 24, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Please join Derek Loeb as we explore a portion of Smith Rock State Park. After an orientation and overview from the rim, we will descend into the canyon and hike about 2.5 miles downstream. Along the way we will discuss caldera formation, role of the rhyolite dike in determining the course of the Crooked River and the Crooked River Gorge intracanyon basalt. Total distance for this hike will be about 5 miles with an elevation loss/gain of about 350'.
